Will try to get more information about it and let you know
Yes it is that time of the year again: roll up for the Dive Lectures at the Royal Geographical Society run by The London Diving Chamber. This year we've got 460 year's worth of diving (sort of) lined up with Alex Hildred, archaeologist on the Mary Rose, and some tales of underwater adventures with Tim Ecott, author of Neutral Buoyancy.
This event is held in support of Scuba Trust - a charity devoted to giving people with physical disabilities an equal opportunity to experience the pleasure and excitement of scuba diving and the underwater world.
Entrance will be free, but please register early as tickets went at record-breaking speed last year.
Date: - Thursday 5th February 2009
Time: - 6.30pm (doors open at 6pm)
Location: - The Royal Geographical Society, 1 Kensington Gore, London, SW7 2AR
Alex Hildred - 'Henry VIII's Mary Rose - 460 years of diving'
Alex HildredAlex Hildred is one of Britain's leading marine archaelogists. She is particularly well known for her work on the excavation of the Mary Rose, a project she joined in 1979. She has directed the site monitoring, survey and recovery projects on the Mary Rose since the lifting of a major portion of the hull in 1982. Her work often relies not only on the support of the maritime archaeological team, but also the dedication of volunteer and amateur divers. Alex has extensive experience on other underwater sites and has directed projects in Malta and Holland. She still works for the Mary Rose Trust, as Curator of Ordinance.
Tim Ecott - Unexpected Encounters Underwater
Tim Ecott'Neutral Buoyancy: Adventures in a Liquid World' has become a cult classic among divers and marine naturalists around the world, not only in English but in numerous other languages too. Tim Ecott set out to recount his own obsession with being underwater and struck a chord with hundreds of thousands of other divers. As well as writing regularly for the national press, including the Telegraph, Guardian and the Times, Tim also wrote the screenplay for Deep Blue, the movie version of the BBC's Blue Planet series. He also appears regularly in Diver magazine.
Tim has dived all over the world, and is a board member of the Central Caribbean Marine Institute. He has a particular interest in marine conservation, and reserves particular affection for sponges.
